Long-term research: Dare to be naive

Data from a current NSF Long Term Ecological Research Grant in Environmental Biology (LTREB) are presented.  Annual census data show densities of wooly bear caterpillars (Arctia virginalis) on Lupinus arboreus (cats/lup) and Conium maculatum (cats/hem) each March from 1985  to the present (means and se).  Rates of parasitism of caterpillars by the tachinid fly, Thelaira americana, are also shown.  These data are analyzed in:

Karban R. and de Valpine P. 2010. Journal of Animal Ecology 79:650-661.
