Long-term research: Dare to be naive

Data from a current NSF Long Term Ecological Research Grant in Environmental Biology (LTREB) are presented.  Annual census data show densities of wooly bear caterpillars (Platyprepia virginalis) on Lupinus arboreus and Conium maculatum each March from 1985  to the present (means and se).  Rates of parasitism of caterpillars by the tachinid fly, Thelaira americana, are also shown.  These data are analyzed in:

Karban R. and de Valpine P. 2010. Journal of Animal Ecology 79:650-661.
